Investigators would not say what role drinking might have played, but rescuers who arrived on the scene in Palm Valley did see alcohol on the boat, said Capt. Gregg Eason of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
He would not say how much was found.
“We don’t know yet who was and who was not consuming alcohol,” he said.
At the beginning of what will likely be a lengthy probe of the accident, five survivors among the 14 people on board the boat have been interviewed since the crash and others will be questioned as they are able to talk with investigators, Eason said at a news briefing along with the National Transportation Safety Board.
I remains possible, of course, that the operator of the boat was not consuming alcohol at the time of the crash. As the article points out that will have to be sorted out (likely through toxicology). Dwayne Clark
