04-06-2009 - Teacher Dies in Boating Accident - Jacksonville Florida Maritime Lawyers

REPUBLIC, Wash. -- A boating accident on Lake Roosevelt has left one Republic schoolteacher dead and another critically injured.

The small Eastern Washington school district's lone principal, Shawn Anderson, says English teacher Dan Walling died Friday. A vocational education instructor, Ted Torzewski, remained in critical condition Sunday at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane.

Anderson says he knows little about the accident. Lincoln and Ferry County sheriff's deputies have referred questions to the National Park Service, and officials with that agency could not be reached.

Anderson says Walling had taught in Republic for five years and was the high school debate coach. He was an outdoors enthusiast and leaves a wife and three children.
